Based in the Firm’s Houston office, David Bumgardner is a Partner in Simpson Thacher’s Mergers and Acquisitions Practice. He advises some of the world’s largest private equity firms and public and private companies on strategic transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures. David has extensive experience advising on matters across the infrastructure, oil and gas, renewable energy and energy transition sectors.
He recently advised KKR in its joint venture with T-Mobile to acquire Metronet, including its broadband infrastructure, rapidly growing residential fiber business operations and existing customers.
Notable experience prior to joining Simpson Thacher includes representing:
- Stonepeak in its approximately $3 billion acquisition of a 50% interest in the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, which, at 2.6 GW, is expected to be the largest offshore wind project in the U.S. and one of the largest offshore wind projects globally upon completion
- A BlackRock Diversified Infrastructure fund and a Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners fund in their $1.14 billion joint acquisition of the Portland Natural Gas Transmission System
- Boasso Global, a portfolio company of KKR, in its acquisition of Linden Bulk Transportation
- Crestwood Equity Partners in its all-equity $7.1 billion sale of the company to Energy Transfer
- IFM Investors in its formation of a joint venture with DigitalBridge to acquire Switch, Inc. in a $11 billion take-private transaction
- Harold Hamm in the take private of Continental Resources, Inc.
- DigitalBridge in its acquisition of a controlling stake in Vertical Bridge Holdings
- DoublePoint Energy in its $6.4 billion sale to Pioneer Natural Resources Company
- Noble Energy in its $13 billion sale to Chevron
- Blackstone Infrastructure Partners, together with affiliates of Enagas, GIC, NPS and USS, in their acquisition of all Class A Shares of Tallgrass Energy
