As Partner in the Private Funds Practice at Simpson Thacher, Peter Vassilev’s practice focuses on the organization, structuring and operation of private investment funds. Peter represents some of the largest, best-known sponsors of private equity, including Blackstone, KKR and The Carlyle Group, and has represented sponsors on funds focused on a wide array of asset classes, including buyout, real estate, growth, technology, venture and hedge funds. His practice also includes advising on carried interest and similar internal GP arrangements, co-investment vehicles, M&A transactions and strategic acquisitions involving financial sponsors, joint ventures, and other corporate transactions and strategic initiatives involving financial sponsors.

Peter Vassilev is a Partner in the Corporate Department at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and a member of the Firm’s Private Funds Practice. Concentrating on the organization, structuring and operation of private investment funds, Peter represents some of the largest, best-known sponsors of private equity, including Blackstone, KKR and The Carlyle Group, and has represented sponsors on funds focused on a wide array of asset classes, including buyout, real estate, growth, technology, venture and hedge funds. His practice also includes advising on carried interest and similar internal GP arrangements, co-investment vehicles, M&A transactions and strategic acquisitions involving financial sponsors, joint ventures, and other corporate transactions and strategic initiatives involving financial sponsors.

Prior to joining Simpson Thacher, Peter was General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at The Raine Group, an integrated merchant bank advising and investing in high growth sectors of technology, media and telecommunications with assets under management in excess of $2.5 billion, where he was involved since the inception of the firm and was responsible for all legal matters, including investment fund matters, fund formation, private equity and venture investments, co-investments, investment banking matters, internal incentive plans and other employee matters, broker-dealer and investment adviser regulatory and compliance matters, investor relations, conflicts of interest, disclosure considerations and tax issues. Prior to The Raine Group, Peter practiced for several years in the private equity fund formation group of another New York-based law firm where his practice  primarily focused on private equity fund formation, private equity investments, international and domestic joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions.

Peter received his J.D. from Yale Law School and his B.A., magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Dartmouth College. Peter is fluent in Bulgarian and proficient in French.
