Laura Lin, based in the Firm’s Palo Alto office, is a Partner in the Litigation Department. Her practice focuses on a wide variety of complex commercial litigation matters, as well as securities litigation, M&A litigation and insurance disputes. Formerly three-time Co-Chair of the American Bar Association’s Ethics & Professionalism Committee, she also counsels clients in connection with matters arising from alleged breaches of fiduciary duties and other professional liability issues.

Laura’s representative experience includes:

Her notable experience prior to joining Simpson Thacher includes representing:

  • Onyx Pharmaceuticals in a complex trial concerning insurance coverage for an underlying securities settlement
  • A large conglomerate corporation in a three-week arbitration hearing concerning a complex contractual dispute involving hundreds of millions of dollars
  • A leading technology company in a criminal investigation addressing alleged false statements made to investors
  • Members of a start-up technology company’s special committee regarding a whistleblowing complaint involving allegations of fraud and misconduct
  • A Fortune 100 company in conducting an internal investigation related to allegations of regulatory violations, fraud and False Claims Act violations
  • LinkedIn in actions against a website to permanently bar the defendant from scraping LinkedIn data and reposting the data on its site

In addition to her client work, Laura is a Co-Chair of the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Natural Resources Defense Council as well as the Board of Directors of the National Center for Youth Law. She previously served as a three-time Chair of the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s “Food From the Bar” campaign, a Bay Area-focused fundraising and volunteer effort that annually provides funding for more than one million meals for local households. Laura has also volunteered with numerous other community outreach programs focused on increasing access to professional and educational opportunities.

Laura received her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006, where she received the Walter H. Annenberg Prize in recognition of leadership and service. She received her J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law in 2009, followed by clerkships with the Honorable Judge J. Michael Seabright of the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii in 2009 and the Honorable Judge Richard C. Wesley of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 2010.
