George M. Gerstein is Senior Counsel at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP where he is a member of the Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits Practice. George concentrates on the fiduciary and prohibited transaction provisions of ERISA as they apply to the investment and management of plan assets. He has extensive experience advising clients in connection with a wide variety of services and asset classes, including foreign exchange. He also has experience advising on issues related to governmental plans.
George advises financial services firms and fund sponsors on a broad range of issues related to Title I of ERISA, including fiduciary responsibility and prohibited transaction issues in connection with plan investments and related products. George has also served in several roles at high-profile financial institutions, including at State Street Bank and Trust Company — State Global Markets and at Deutsche Bank — Global Prime Finance division.
George received his J.D., cum laude, from University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School in 2007, where he was Comments Editor for the University of Pennsylvania Law School Journal of Constitutional Law. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Dickinson College where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
