Ben Rodger

Ben Rodger is Senior Counsel in the Firm’s London Real Estate Finance Practice. He advises international private equity sponsors, portfolio companies and other top-tier investors in connection with the financing of U.K. and European real estate and related investments. Ben acts across a range of asset classes, including logistics, hotels, residential and data centers.  

Ben’s recent work highlights include advising:

• Blackstone on the acquisition and subsequent c. £700 million senior/mezzanine financing and capex facilities in respect of U.K. hotel owner-operator
• Sponda Oy and its subsidiaries on their various term and capex facilities
• Mileway and St. Modwen/Indurent on over £1 billion of U.K. CMBS financings
• Mileway on its c. £4 billion pan-European refinancing
• Boreal and Cadillac Fairview joint venture on its financing of U.K., Dutch and Spanish logistics assets
• Blackstone on multiple financings of German residential assets
• Mileway on a number of U.K. and pan-European financings
• Blackstone on the financing of Dutch residential assets
• Blackstone and HIP on the c. £700 million senior/mezzanine refinancing of a portfolio of 14 high-end Spanish hotels

Ben’s experience prior to joining Simpson Thacher includes advising a:

• Major U.K. clearing bank on its £400 million financing of a U.K. data center
• Global cold-storage operator on a variety of transactions relating to its cold-storage assets, including the £282 million CMBS in respect of its U.K. portfolio and the €130 million refinancing of its pan-European portfolio
• Debt fund on its £80 million senior/mezzanine refinancing of a hotel development and subsequent disposal of the senior loan
• Debt fund on its £105 million senior/mezzanine acquisition financing of a portfolio of student accommodation assets
• European bank on a number of loan-on-loan facilities ultimately secured on Irish real estate
• Global data center operator on its $8.4 billion acquisition of a competitor
• Debt fund on its €36 million senior development financing of a German property and subsequent senior/mezzanine refinancing
• European bank on the £23.5 million loan-on-loan development financing of certain student accommodation assets in the U.K.
• European bank on the £35 million loan-on-loan development financing of a hotel in the U.K.
• European bank on its participations in loans ultimately secured against care home portfolios in the U.K.
• European bank on the DKK507 million development financing of an asset located in Denmark
• European debt fund on a £25 million mezzanine loan ultimately secured on a U.K. office property
• Leisure operator on its JV and financing arrangements in respect of hotel and flexible working sites in the U.K. and Portugal
• U.S. hotel operator on its £435 million senior/mezzanine financing in respect of a prestigious London hotel and the subsequent disposal of the asset

Ben received his LPC from BPP Law School in 2011 and his Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law School in 2010. He received his B.A. in History from the University of Dublin, Trinity College in 2008.
