Breen Haire, Co-Managing Partner of Simpson Thacher’s Houston office and Co-Head of the Firm’s Energy and Infrastructure Practice, and Corporate Partner Shamus Crosby have been named among The American Lawyer’s Dealmakers of the Year for 2025 in recognition of their work advising KKR in its joint venture with T-Mobile to acquire Metronet, a complex and multi-faceted transaction that marked a major step in KKR’s efforts to help address growing demand for faster, reliable broadband access in the U.S. As reported by The American Lawyer, Breen and Shamus also helped guide the establishment of the “highly technical commercial arrangement” between T-Mobile and Metronet which involved the transition of Metronet from a residential fiber company into a wholesaler. “It was three deals in one,” Breen explained, with Shamus adding that “[e]very part of the deal was interrelated, but we worked in parallel.” Their work was further complicated when Hurricane Beryl hit Houston weeks before the deal’s closing, leading to lengthy power outages and requiring “pivots on working location and time,” The American Lawyer reported.
