Keith Noreika Quoted in The American Lawyer on Uptick of Financial Regulatory Work

06.17.20

Partner Keith Noreika was quoted in an article by The American Lawyer titled, “Are Bank Practices Finally Seeing a Rebound Amid the Pandemic Response?” The article explores how attorneys representing banks are anticipating an uptick in financial regulatory work in the U.S. due to the recent economic volatility and the various credit and loan programs created during the pandemic. Commenting that financial institutions regulatory work tends to be “seasonal,” Keith noted that he has recently been focused on navigating the government’s immediate economic response to the pandemic, as issuers seek help in accessing capital markets, small businesses need support evaluating or applying for Paycheck Protection Program loans, and midmarket companies need assistance with the Main Street Lending Program.

Further, Keith added that, as the country slowly begins to reopen, the strength of the financial sector may promote heightened market activity and M&A transactions. “I get a sense that we’re not far away from going back to more normal, and the inertia will come back, coupled with an added regulatory angle—loan forgiveness, forbearance, and congressional and attorney general investigations that will come given the amount of money the government has put into the marketplace,” he said.
