Todd Crider Featured in Latin Lawyer on the Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas

02.07.19

Corporate Partner Todd Crider was quoted in a Latin Lawyer article titled “The Roadmap.” The article reflects on the development of pro bono work in Latin America over the last decade since the enactment of the Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas (PBDA), a written commitment through which law firms, universities, companies and other institutions housing lawyers pledge to give free counsel to those who cannot afford to pay. Today, the declaration has more than 560 signatories from 21 countries. The piece also discusses the evolving needs for Latin America’s “pro bono ecosystem.” Todd says “There are no easy solutions, no panacea, just a process of gradual growth. And that remains the goal.”

From 2005 to 2008, Todd spearheaded the formation of and served as a U.S. representative to the multi-national committee that drafted the PBDA, which was an initiative of the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice. Todd currently serves as an executive committee member and previously served as the founding chair of the Vance Center, today an organization with a full-time staff of ten including five lawyers engaged in cutting edge international pro bono and innovative public interest work in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa.
