David Lieberman and Eli Hunt Quoted in Law360 on Investments in Infrastructure Projects by Private Equity Clients

07.05.18

Corporate Partners David Lieberman and Eli Hunt were quoted in Law360 in an article titled “Infrastructure Woes Spell Opportunity For PE Players, Attys,” which discusses the opportunity for private equity investment in the U.S. infrastructure space and the need for attorneys to have a thorough understanding of the ways in which PE firms get involved and how the space is evolving, so they can properly help guide clients through public-private partnerships. Although Trump’s administration was expected to significantly increase PE investments in infrastructure, the growth has been limited due to potential complications when closing the deal. David notes that private equity firms seem to be less focused on private equity-partnerships than on private infrastructure, because of potential political issues and the reduced speed at which things get done when a government agency or authority is involved. Beyond this, attorneys should be aware that infrastructure has expanded to a broader category that includes not just bridges, tunnels and roads, but also fiber optic networks, data centers, power plants and pipelines – things that may be a more attractive investments for private equity firms. Eli notes that private equity provides an important source of capital for infrastructure beyond ‘public projects’ that the public benefits from and uses.
