Simpson Thacher was profiled by Law360 as a Capital Markets Group of the Year for 2017. The Firm advised companies and underwriters on more than $200 billion in high yield and investment grade debt offerings from October 1, 2016 to October 1, 2017, and it helped clients raise billions more in IPOs and follow-on offerings around the world. Art Robinson, Global Head of the Firm’s Capital Markets Practice, was quoted in the article noting that the complexity of the deals, given the size of the practice, is one reason why Simpson Thacher stands apart from its competitors. Capital Markets Partner Joseph Kaufman was also quoted in the article and highlighted Simpson Thacher’s aim to maintain strong relationships with portfolio companies of private equity clients once they are spun off. Capital Markets Partner Kennedy told the publication that some technology firms are staying private longer and are generating the volume of free cash flow that allows them to consider a high-yield debt offering. “They need the services as much as a Fortune 500 company would,” he said.

The practice group also was acknowledged for its work on Microsoft’s $17 billion bond offering and its close relationships with some of the world’s largest banks.
