The Firm's Litigation Practice was ranked in the top tiers by Chambers & Partners in their 2006 Chambers USA Guide. Chambers' researchers conducted over 6,500 in-depth interviews with clients and lawyers, covering 170 countries. Editorial comment is also derived from the research, with quotations used when they sum up the prevailing opinion of the market.

According to Chambers, Simpson Thacher is continually the "top of the heap for general commercial and securities matters."  Others have said that this "no-nonsense litigation firm is one of the best in the country".   In addition, the Firm's insurance practice was described as a "'class act' that stands out, first and foremost, for its insurance dispute resolution track record and corporate finance breadth".

At U.S. based Chambers awards ceremony, Mr. Ostrager won the award for Litigation Business Trial Lawyer and Simpson Thacher litigation partner Kevin Arquit was the co-winner of the Antitrust award.
