Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP Elects 13 New Partners

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP announced today that it has elected 13 associates as members of the Firm effective January 1, 2007. The new partners are: Barrie B. Covit (Corporate-NY), John C. Ericson (Corporate-NY), Michael J. Garvey (Litigation-NY), Gregory T. Grogan (Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits-NY), Farhad M. Karim (Real Estate-London), Patrick E. King (Litigation-Palo Alto), Sasan S. Mehrara (Real Estate-NY), Arman Y. Oruc (Litigation-Washington), Ellen Reilly Patterson (Corporate-NY), Nicholas J. Shaw (Corporate-London), Chad A. Skinner (Corporate-Palo Alto), Kathryn King Sudol (Corporate-NY) and George S. Wang (Litigation-NY).

BARRIE B. COVIT

is a member of the Firm’s corporate department in the New York office. His practice focuses on private funds and other facets of “alternative asset management.” Mr. Covit graduated from McGill University in 1995, where he was a James McGill Scholar. He received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1998, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. Mr. Covit joined Simpson Thacher in 1998.

JOHN C. ERICSON

is a member of the Firm’s corporate department in the New York office. His area of concentration is capital markets and securities. Mr. Ericson graduated from Amherst College in 1993 and received his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1997. Mr. Ericson joined Simpson Thacher in 1997.

MICHAEL J. GARVEY

is a member of the Firm’s litigation department in the New York office. His practice focuses on insurance, securities and shareholder litigation and governmental investigations. Mr. Garvey graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1995 and received his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law, cum laude, in 1998. Mr. Garvey joined Simpson Thacher in 1998, served as a law clerk for the Hon. Albert M. Rosenblatt, New York State Court of Appeals from 1999-2001, and returned to the Firm in 2001.

GREGORY T. GROGAN

is a member of the Firm’s executive compensation & employee benefits department in the New York office. His practice focuses on corporate governance, executive compensation, employee benefits and mergers and acquisitions, particularly in connection with private equity and leveraged buyout transactions. Mr. Grogan graduated from California State University Northridge in 1995 and received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, cum laude, in 1998. Mr. Grogan joined Simpson Thacher in 2000.

FARHAD M. KARIM

is a member of the Firm’s real estate department in the London office. His areas of concentration are real estate acquisitions, dispositions, financings and joint ventures. Mr. Karim graduated from McGill University in 1990. He received his Master of International Affairs from Columbia University School of International & Public Affairs in 1993. Mr. Karim received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1998 and joined Simpson Thacher in 1998.

PATRICK E. KING

is a member of the Firm’s litigation department in the Palo Alto office. His practice focuses on intellectual property. Mr. King graduated from Dartmouth College in 1981 and received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1994, where he was a Stone Scholar. Mr. King joined Simpson Thacher in 1994.

SASAN S. MEHRARA

is a member of the Firm’s real estate department in the New York office. His areas of concentration are commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions and financings. Mr. Mehrara graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, cum laude, in 1994 and received his J.D. from The George Washington University of Law School, with honors in 1997. Mr. Mehrara joined Simpson Thacher in 2000.

ARMAN Y. ORUC

is a member of the Firm’s litigation department in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on antitrust litigation. Mr. Oruc graduated from Skidmore College in 1992 and received his M.A. from Cambridge University in 1993. He received his J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, in 1996. Mr. Oruc joined Simpson Thacher in 2003.

ELLEN REILLY PATTERSON

is a member of the Firm’s corporate department in the New York office. Her areas of concentration are mergers and acquisitions and capital markets and securities. Ms. Patterson graduated from Harvard University, cum laude, in 1995 and received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, in 1998. Ms. Patterson joined Simpson Thacher in 1998.

NICHOLAS J. SHAW

is a member of the Firm’s corporate department and is based in the London office. His practice focuses on capital markets transactions and leveraged finance. Mr. Shaw graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1991 and received his LL.B. and LL.M. from The University of Adelaide Law School. In 1997, Mr. Shaw also received his LL.M. from Columbia Law School, where he was a James Kent Scholar and graduated with Honors in 1997. Mr. Shaw joined Simpson Thacher in 2000.

CHAD A. SKINNER

is a member of the Firm’s corporate department and is based in the Palo Alto office. His area of concentration is mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Skinner graduated from Duke University, cum laude, in 1994 and received his J.D. from The University of Michigan Law School, cum laude, in 1997. Mr. Skinner joined Simpson Thacher in 1997.

KATHRYN KING SUDOL

is a member of the Firm’s corporate department in the New York office. Her area of concentration is mergers and acquisitions. Ms. Sudol graduated from Northwestern University, with Honors, in 1995 and received her J.D. from the New York University School of Law in 1998. Ms. Sudol joined Simpson Thacher in 1998.

GEORGE S. WANG

is a member of the Firm’s litigation department in the New York office. His practice focuses on securities and shareholder litigation and insurance/reinsurance. Mr. Wang graduated from Harvard University in 1995, magna cum laude, and received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude, in 1998. After clerking for the Hon. Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 1998-1999, Mr. Wang joined Simpson Thacher in 1999.
