Simpson Thacher is representing Polo Ralph Lauren Corp., the publicly held business of renowned designer Ralph Lauren, in its dispute with Jones Apparel over use of the "Lauren" trademark. On June 3, 2003, the Firm filed a suit in New York Supreme Court on behalf of Polo seeking a declaration that Jones' license to use certain Polo trademarks terminates on December 31, 2003. On that same day, Jones filed its own suit seeking over $500 million in damages related to the termination of the license. Jones also alleges that Polo interfered with its non-compete and confidentiality agreements with Jackwyn Nemerov, the former President of Jones.
The litigation team includes Hank Gutman, Bryce Friedman, Robyn Rahbar, summer associates Jamie Blain and Lisa Rubin, and paralegal Dan O'Neil.
