Simpson Thacher was honored as the 2020 “Law Firm of the Year in Asia (Fund Formation)” by Private Equity International (PEI). PEI noted it was “no surprise that Simpson Thacher & Bartlett re-claimed the top spot,” having previously been named by PEI as “Law Firm of the Year in Asia (Fund Formation)” in 2018 as well. The Firm was recognized for advising on a significant number of landmark fundraisings across the Asia-Pacific region in 2020, including large pan-Asia funds such as CVC Capital Partners Asia V, which raised $4.5 billion, and PAG’s SCREP VII, which raised $2.75 billion, several Japan buyout funds such as Advantage Partners VI, Nippon Investment Company Fund II, Polaris Equity Partners V and Sunrise Capital IV, and other country-specific funds like Philippines-focused Navegar II and Indonesia-focused CapSquare II.
