Recruitment

Attracting and recruiting the best legal talent requires intentional outreach to law students and lawyers from a wide variety of backgrounds and lived experiences. We continue to invest in the pipeline of future lawyers through active participation in existing external programs, as well as developing our own, such as our First Look, 1L Diversity Program and Conrad Harper 2L Diversity Fellowship.

Retention and Development

Investing in the retention and development of our talent is paramount to the success of our lawyers and Firm. Every year we devote additional DEI resources and develop new programs to ensure our lawyers are supported at each step of their professional development. Diversity Mentoring, Diversity Leadership Conference and access to internal and external coaches are just some of the resources our diverse lawyers can access throughout their careers at Simpson Thacher.

Advancement

Advancing the careers of lawyers from underrepresented backgrounds is a key priority for the Firm’s leadership. We have prioritized identifying and removing hidden barriers to advancement. We continue to identify talent at earlier career stages and provide increased transparency on skill sets necessary to achieve success at the Firm, including elevation to the partnership. Internal substantive and leadership training are complemented with DEI programming that offer lawyers opportunities to achieve their long-term career goals.
