Collin Janus leverages his private practice experience and his advisory roles at significant banks and financial institutions to counsel domestic and international financial institutions on the full spectrum of regulatory, transactional and enforcement matters. His work ranges from advising on complex acquisitions and investments to compliance and new activity matters. He routinely represents clients before federal regulators, including the Federal Reserve, OCC and FDIC, as well as U.S. state banking regulators.

Collin Janus is Counsel in Simpson Thacher’s Financial Institutions Practice. Based in Washington, D.C., Collin advises domestic and international financial institutions and investors in connection with acquisitions, investments, activities, capital, insolvency, and other regulatory, transactional and enforcement matters. He routinely represents clients before all of the primary federal banking regulators, including the Federal Reserve, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and before U.S. state banking regulators. Collin also formerly held advisory roles at significant banks and financial institutions, uniquely positioning him to provide sophisticated commercial advice to his clients.

Collin’s recent matters have included:

  • Banc of California in its merger with PacWest Bancorp, concurrent capital raise from Warburg Pincus and Centerbridge, and conversion of the resulting institution to a state member bank*
  • Flagstar Bancorp in its merger with New York Community Bancorp, and later advising New York Community Bancorp in its $1 billion capital raising transaction led by three prominent private equity firms*

Prior to joining Simpson Thacher, Collin was an attorney at another international law firm. Prior to attending law school, he was a certified public accountant and auditor at a large international accounting firm. Collin received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2008, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and was the recipient of the Summer Public Service Fellowship, American Bankruptcy Institute Award, Attorney-CPA Foundation Scholarship, Dean’s Academic Achievement Award and several other awards. He received his M.P.A. from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin in 2003 and his B.B.A. from the Wisconsin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002, where he co-founded the school’s Beta Alpha Psi Chapter, was a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and received the Top Ten Accounting Graduate Award. Collin is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Illinois.
