Ryerson Symons is a Partner in the Firm’s New York office. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions and other business combination transactions as well as corporate finance transactions. Ryerson has frequently represented many of the world’s leading private equity firms, including Apax Partners, BC Partners, The Blackstone Group, KKR, Permira and Providence Equity Partners.

He has twice been named “Dealmaker of the Week” by The American Lawyer for his representation of a BC Partners-led consortium in its $8.7 billion acquisition of PetSmart in 2014, and a consortium including Apax Partners in its $6.3 billion acquisition of KCI in 2011.

Ryerson joined Simpson Thacher in 1992 and was based in the Firm’s London office from 1994 to 1996. In 1997, he spent a year on secondment with Gide Loyrette Nouel in Paris. After becoming a Partner in 2001, Ryerson returned to the London office through 2009. Ryerson received a B.A. in History and Political Science from McGill University in 1988, a B.A. in Jurisprudence from Oxford University in 1990 and an LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1992.
