Matt Feehily is a Partner in the Firm’s Sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Practice. He represents a broad range of clients, including private equity firms, project sponsors, portfolio companies and corporations, and covers novel and complex legal issues in an emerging area of law and regulation. Matt has extensive experience advising on EU and UK regulatory frameworks for sustainable finance and ESG disclosures at product, firm and company levels, including under the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), EU Taxonomy Regulation, the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and UK Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) reporting regimes.

Matt has extensive experience advising on EU and UK regulatory frameworks for sustainable finance and ESG disclosures at product, firm and company levels, including under the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), EU Taxonomy Regulation, the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and UK Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) reporting regimes. Matt works alongside Simpson Thacher’s market leading Investment Funds Practice and Financial Services and Funds Regulatory teams. He has offered counsel to Simpson Thacher’s transactional teams and clients on ESG-related matters from a strategy and implementation perspective.
Matt also regularly contributes to the work of trade associations and industry forums in relation to ESG topics.

Matt’s experience prior to joining Simpson Thacher includes:
- Advising on the developing U.K. TCFD-aligned disclosure regimes for asset managers, asset owners, and corporate issuers
- Working with clients to develop approaches to stewardship and engagement under the U.K. Stewardship Code (securing signatory status) and the revised EU Shareholder Rights Directive
Matt received his B.A. Hons. in Law from University of Oxford in 2011 and his PGDip, LPC from The University of Law in 2012. He is currently pursuing an LL.M. in Environmental Law and Policy at University College London. Matt is admitted to practice in England and Wales.
