David Whelan is a Partner in the Firm’s Private Funds Practice. David specializes in the formation and operation of private equity funds, including secondary, infrastructure, real estate funds, buyout funds and co-investment funds, as well as other asset classes.

He has represented numerous private equity sponsors in fund formation, including Corsair Capital, Blackstone, Morgan Stanley, New Mountain Capital and Strategic Partners.

Notable work highlights include representation of:

  • Blackstone in the establishment of the $25 billion fund, Strategic Partners IX, and the $2.7 billion fund, Strategic Partners GP Solutions, its inaugural GP-led continuation fund strategy.
  • New Mountain Capital in the formation and raising of the $9.6 billion New Mountain Partners VI and $640 million New Mountain Strategic Equity Fund I
  • New Mountain Capital in its acquisition of PerkinElmer’s Applied, Food and Enterprise Services businesses.
  • Corsair Capital in the establishment of Corsair V Financial Services Capital Partners
  • Corsair Capital in its joint venture with Investcorp through Investcorp’s acquisition of 50% stake in Corsair’s infrastructure business, as well as in its acquisitions of majority stakes in HungerRush, Aurora Payments an IDIQ

David received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 2015 and his B.A. from the University of Virginia in 2010. Davis is admitted to practice in New York.
