In their column in the New York Law Journal, Litigation Partners Bill Russell and Linton Mann III discuss Syeed v. Bloomberg. In its unanimous decision, the Court of Appeals answered a certified question from the Second Circuit by holding that the New York City and New York State Human Rights Laws banning employment discrimination protect out-of-state residents who sought an opportunity to work in New York State but who are not yet located there. This decision makes clear that the Human Rights Laws extend protections to nonresident individuals who are applying for jobs that will require them to work in New York City or New York State.
