Corporate Partners Alan Klein, Ben Spiers and Clare Gaskell contributed to the 2021 edition of “Getting the Deal Through: Market Intelligence – Mergers & Acquisitions,” which focused on dealmaking trends in some of the most prominent jurisdictions around the world. Alan authored the “Global Trends” introductory chapter, in which he analyzed the global deal economy. He explained how the first half of 2021 was the most active in M&A history globally and how the geographic scope of the current fevered M&A market has displayed a high deal value across regions. He further noted that the leading business sectors for transactions included technology, financial services, energy and power transmission, industrials and healthcare. Alan also authored the “United States” chapter, which was formatted as a Q&A and focused on overall trends in the U.S., significant keynote deals, recent commercial developments and the role of shareholder activists, as well as trends looking forward to the new year. Ben and Clare authored the “United Kingdom” chapter, which was also structured in a Q&A format, and highlighted the U.K.’s particularly active and stagnant sectors, prominent deals, the outlook for 2021 and recent regulatory and commercial developments, among other themes.
