Simpson Thacher was named a Real Estate Practice Group of the Year for 2024 by Law360. The Firm was recognized for its work on several significant deals over the past year, including Blackstone’s $7 billion hyperscale data center joint venture with Digital Realty, as well as its $16.1 billion acquisition of Australian data center group AirTrunk. Real Estate Partner Scott Kobak, who advised Blackstone on the joint venture with Digital Realty, told Law360 that the deal’s international nature required collaboration from Simpson Thacher lawyers around the world and across a variety of practice groups. Scott added that the Firm takes pride in advising clients on transactions at the cutting edge of emerging industries. “Data centers have become a really huge part of our practice,” he said.

The Firm’s work advising Blackstone in its sale of Turtle Bay Resort was also highlighted. Sasan Mehrara, Head of Simpson Thacher’s Real Estate Practice, cited the deal as an example of how the Firm’s longstanding relationship with clients helps drive successful results, noting that the Firm had previously advised Blackstone in its 2018 acquisition of the resort, as well as in subsequent refinancing transactions. "[S]eeing the life cycle of an investment allows us to provide the highest level of execution because we really know the assets," Sasan said.
