Registered Funds Partner Ken Burdon was featured on an episode of “The NAVigator,” a podcast from the Active Investment Company Alliance (AICA), which discusses investing and “excellence beyond indexing”, using closed-end funds (CEFs) and business development companies. In the interview, Ken discussed the impact that the upcoming Trump administration might have on CEFs, noting that during his previous term, the SEC “was broadly supportive of this concept of democratizing access to private markets.” He explained that “closed-end funds can help fill that gap” between retail investors and institutional investors’ opportunities to “save and invest in the same fashion with the same sponsors.” He further noted that there are “a couple of ways that the SEC could help support the development of closed-end fund products,” including “workshopping some improvements that still protect investors but also support greater capital formation,” and reevaluating “the framework for a closed-end fund or a BDC to co-invest in deals with its sponsors other funds.”
