Fund Finance Partners Kate Sinclair and Katie McMenamin were featured in a Q&A in Private Debt Investor (PDI) titled, “Simpson Thacher & Bartlett: Innovation Escalates as Fund Finance Comes of Age.” The article highlighted key trends, developments and innovations in the fund financing market as it moves into a new phase of maturity. It also discussed the outlook for fund finance over the next five years, including how greater specialization will lead to an enhanced toolkit for operators in the market. Kate noted, “In the core part of the market, the demand for subscription lines, NAV facilities and GP and co-invest financings – and all variations and hybrids of these product types – remains steady and set for sizeable growth.” Katie went on to explain that market participants have been trying to solve the challenge of balance sheet capacity, as some traditional bank lenders have faced difficulties meeting demand for the subscription lines that larger fund managers need. She added, “We have seen innovative approaches to overcome that, a lot of which comes down to opening this space to insurance and institutional capital.”
