Jonathan Karen Quoted in The American Lawyer on Impact of Fed Rate Cuts on Funds

09.23.24

Partner Jonathan Karen was quoted in an American Lawyer article titled, “‘More Deals and Larger Deals’: Big Law Dealmakers Weigh In on Rate Cut Impact,” which discussed the impact of the Federal Reserve’s recent interest rate cuts on dealmaking. When discussing the potential impact on fund formation and fundraising activity, Jonathan noted that, “As public markets rise, the percentage that alternative assets represent within an entire portfolio of an investor lessens, especially since private equity valuations stabilize, and this brings private equity back to (or below) its target allocation within the portfolio.” He further explained that lower rates help by “lowering financing costs, which may spur deal activity, creating opportunity for more liquidity and more distributions to investors from older vintage funds and who can reinvest into new commitments to private funds.”
