Abram Ellis Quoted in The Wall Street Journal on Managing Sanctions Risk in Commingled Funds

Litigation Partner Abram Ellis was quoted in a Wall Street Journal column, titled: “Singh’s Take: Commingled Fund Investors Anticipate Russia-Sanction Loophole in Alaska.” The article discussed the recent announcements by some large-scale investors, including pension and state funds, to divest Russian investments following the invasion of the Ukraine and related sanctions against certain Russian entities, and the potential challenges involved in exiting those holdings. Abram noted that limited partners and general partners have been working closely together to ensure compliance with the sanctions and mitigate risk, saying, “Many [managers] and [investors] are rowing in the same direction—they tend to face similar legal, contractual and reputational risks in continuing business in Russia.”
