12.03.21

Stephen noted that, “The past five years have seen an increase in the number of securities fraud cases,” and that many of the recent filings are “related to companies’ response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and data breaches,” as well as an increase in SPAC-related securities litigation this year. He further explained how one reason for the increase in SEC whistleblower reports is the transition to “remote work providing whistleblowers with more privacy and less supervision,” and that “companies and their investors should stay vigilant of securities fraud-related issues,” by paying attention to business risks and providing proactive risk disclosures regardless of the economic climate.
