Partner Lauren King was quoted in an article published by Private Equity Law Report which highlighted her move to Simpson Thacher and noted her experience advising sponsors on the full range of secondary transactions, including traditional and synthetic secondary acquisitions and dispositions, GP‑led restructurings and the formation of secondaries funds. She explained that even though Simpson Thacher has experience in the GP-led secondaries space, given the recent incredible growth of secondaries, the Firm brought her in to “focus on that work,” to further enhance its secondaries practice and develop “a cohesive group of lawyers who do both fund formation and transactional work.”

When discussing trends in the secondaries market, Lauren explained the recent industry growth, highlighting that, “Secondaries—specifically, GP‑led secondary transactions—are now viewed as another portfolio management tool for GPs.” She also noted the trend toward specialization, explaining that it is not limited to industry or asset class but happening across geographies as well. She also mentioned that she is keeping an eye on potential regulatory attention that could be directed at secondaries in the future.
