Private Funds Partner Jonathan Karen was named an “Fund Formation MVP” by Law360 for 2021 in recognition of his work on high-profile fund matters. In particular, the profile highlighted Jonathan’s work on the $14.6 billion BioMed Realty recapitalization, as well as his role advising Silver Lake in its $20 billion fundraise for Silver Lake Partners VI, and Blackstone in the formation of its $8 billion long-hold private equity vehicle, Blackstone Core Equity Partners II. Jonathan credited the relationships he has developed with clients as among the things he most enjoys about the work, as well as intellectual rigor and creativity involved in developing new funds. In discussing advice for junior attorneys, Jonathan noted that the work can often feel a bit “Karate Kid-esque” in nature, where certain tasks and exercises may not make sense at first but, when combined over the longer term, help to develop excellent, highly-skilled lawyers.
