In celebration of International Women’s Day, Private Funds Partner Seema Shah was featured on the General Counselling podcast’s inaugural “Diversity in Leadership” series, hosted by Montresor Legal. Discussing her experience working in private equity, Seema commented that when she began her career, she was often the only woman in the room. She said she believes that law firms have increasingly been promoting and increasing gender diversity and highlighted that nearly half of all Simpson Thacher associates are women. She noted that there is a concentrated effort towards ensuring women lawyers at the Firm are being staffed on the right matters and have the best exposure from early on in their careers, to make sure they are given the maximum opportunities to succeed. During the podcast, Seema also spoke about her experience working both in private practice and in-house on secondment, the importance of mentorships and advice she would give her younger self, among other topics.
