Funds Partner Peter Gilman was quoted in a Private Equity Law Report article titled, “The Growth of Preferred Equity: Future Trends in the Asset Class and Options for Sponsor‑ and LP‑Level Liquidity (Part Two of Two).” This second article in a two-part series described the role of preferred equity in providing liquidity in GP-stake acquisitions and LP transactions on the secondary market, and outlined potential preferred equity trends the market can anticipate.

Despite preferred equity becoming popular over the last couple of years, Peter observed there are now a number of significant players that are actively marketing preferred equity solutions to sponsors, and that it has become part of the conversation sponsors have when considering their financing needs. “It really provides another measure of flexibility in terms of raising capital, and I think it will continue to be a more integrated and used aspect of the financing options that sponsors have, both for their funds and for GPs themselves,” Peter added.
