Corporate Partner Rajib Chanda was featured in a Wall Street Journal Pro Private Equity Q&A titled, “Rajib Chanda Sees Bipartisan Appeal in Private Equity for the Masses,” highlighting the reasons a potential change in administration may not derail moves to make private equity more accessible to ordinary investors. The article noted how, for many years, the private equity industry has been seeking out ways to open the asset class up to ordinary investors and 401(k) retirement plans. Rajib discussed topics including potential ways the private equity industry might win over those that don’t view this expansion as favorably and some of the challenges in accessing capital held by individual investors. When analyzing how a potential change in the balance of power in the White House or Senate may affect recent efforts to make private equity more accessible to individual and 401(k) investors, Rajib said, “There’s not nearly as much [opposition] to the idea that investors have benefited from access to private equity. There’s no evidence that the Democrats are opposed to the modern portfolio theory of diversification. I think the fundamental difference is actually the focus on diversification and gatekeepers as opposed to pure access.”
