Rajib Chanda Quoted in Ignites on SEC Rulemaking Agenda Following Coronavirus Pandemic

Corporate Partner Rajib Chanda was quoted in an Ignites article titled, “Covid Exposes Areas That Need More – and Fewer – SEC Rules.” The article examined areas brought to light by the market turbulence stemming from the coronavirus pandemic where SEC rulemaking may be necessary going forward and areas that could benefit from it being scaled back. When discussing how the SEC should potentially focus on undoing some of its existing rules rather than creating new ones, Rajib suggested that this downturn has shown what can go right in the market, such as fund sponsors continuing to fulfill their fiduciary duties. He further noted that the SEC acknowledged that the ’40 Act may have “gotten in the way of advisors trying to do the right thing for shareholders,” and, as a result, it extended temporary relief from the Act for certain activities.
