Corporate Partner Alan Klein was quoted in a Financial Times article titled, “Lawyers re-tool to take on restructuring boom.” The article examines how law firms are shifting attorneys to areas including restructuring and insolvency during the coronavirus pandemic in order to handle an increase in business from companies in financial distress. The article also asserts the most successful law firms will be those that leverage the connections their M&A partners have forged with chief executives.
Alan noted that during a downturn, all deal lawyers become restructuring advisors to guide clients navigating a crisis. “There has been a spike in restructuring but the reality is that the wave hasn’t hit yet,” Alan said. “Now we are helping clients analyze the situation, stress test scenarios, talk about how they can use their balance sheet, and what we are seeing in the market.
