John Terzaken, Global Co-Chair of the Firm’s Antitrust and Trade Regulation Practice, was quoted in Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Global Competition Review (GCR) and Law360 articles discussing enforcement activity and trends in jurisdictions around the globe, and what to watch for in this space in 2020. This data was released as part of Simpson Thacher’s “2019 Global Cartel Enforcement Report.” When speaking to the WSJ about why the amount of antitrust fines were lower during the second half of the decade, John noted that this was, in part, due to the current administration’s focus on domestic cartel cases as opposed to the more sprawling, global cartel cases that often result in much larger fines. “It’s not a question of aggressiveness. It’s a question of focus,” he said.
