Corporate Partner Robert Rabalais was profiled in Texas Lawyer as a “Trailblazer” for 2019, in recognition of his more than 30 years of experience advising on financing deals for the energy industry, and adapting novel, sophisticated lending products for the oil and gas sector. He is highlighted for representing major financial institutions in multibillion-dollar transactions with oil and gas companies, including representing a private equity fund that needed a development loan to drill in reserves it held in the Gulf of Mexico. Despite a lack of cash flow, he worked with two French banks to provide “something similar to conventional financing,” he said. In discussing the future of the industry, he notes that it is going to have to rely even more on non-traditional capital providers, such as private equity funds and credit funds.
