Mercantil Colpatria Sells 49% Interest in Colfondos

Simpson Thacher represented Mercantil Colpatria in connection with the sale of a 49% interest in Colfondos S.A. Pensiones y Cesantías (“Colfondos”) to an affiliate of Administradora de Fondos de Pensiones Habitat S.A. (“AFP Habitat”). As part of the agreement, AFP Habitat has also agreed to acquire Scotiabank’s 51% interest in Colfondos. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
Mercantil Colpatria is a conglomerate whose business operations have a leadership presence in Colombia’s banking, construction, insurance and health sectors. Colfondos is a pension fund company in Colombia. In 2012, the Firm represented Mercantil Colpatria in connection with the sale of a 51% interest in Colfondos to Scotiabank.
AFP Habitat is one of the largest pension fund administrators in Latin America, primarily in Chile and Peru.
