Simpson Thacher Teams With National Women’s Law Center to Secure Title IX Changes in Union City School District

Simpson Thacher, in partnership with the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), has helped bring about major changes under Title IX for girls in the Union City School District in Union City, New Jersey. The District and NWLC came to an agreement to improve athletic opportunities for female students. The Firm represented NWLC in informing Union City High School and other New Jersey schools that they were out of compliance with Title IX, the federal law banning sex discrimination in education. The school district has agreed to improve opportunities for girls, including offering additional sport options and teams, improving athletic facilities and providing girls with better equipment and resources.
