Simpson Thacher was recognized as the “Investment Funds Firm of the Year” at the ALB Japan Law Awards 2019 for its representation of leading global and Japan-based sponsors on some of the market-defining fundraising transactions in Japan in 2018. Earlier this year, the Asia investment funds team was awarded “Investment Funds Firm of the Year” at the Asia Legal Awards 2019. The ALB Japan Law Awards was an annual event to recognize the achievements of Japan's leading law firms and in-house legal teams, as well as the top deals and dealmakers of the past year.

The Firm was also awarded “Debt Market Deal of the Year” for its representation of the initial purchasers in the €7.5 billion and US$5.5 billion Senior Notes offerings completed by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited in connection with its acquisition of Shire plc.

The Firm was also a finalist in five other categories, including “Equity Market Deal of the Year,” “M&A Deal of the Year (Premium),” “Real Estate Deal of the Year,” “TMT Deal of the Year” and “International Law Firm of the Year.” In addition, Corporate Partner Alan Cannon was a finalist in the “Dealmaker of the Year” category.
