Corporate Partner Pete Gilman was quoted in a Law360 article on private equity trends on the horizon for the remainder of 2017. The article, titled “4 PE Trends to Watch in the 2nd Half of 2017,” discusses industry trends that lawyers may want to monitor, including expedient fundraises and potential regulatory changes. Pete tells the publication that multibillion-dollar funds that used to take more than a year of fundraising are now launching and holding final closes within six months, in some cases only requiring a single close. “This puts tremendous pressure on our project management skills to make sure everything is buttoned up, and requires a team of fund lawyers working together to manage multiple, contemporaneous work streams and investor negotiations," Pete says. He also discusses the effect of the Dodd-Frank Act on the private equity industry. "Investors will likely continue to put emphasis on investing with sponsors with robust compliance systems and policies, and I don't see those systems getting dismantled anytime soon," Pete says.
