Simpson Thacher Pro Bono Work Featured in Federal Circuit Bar Association's Pro Bono Digest

04.11.17

Simpson Thacher’s pro bono work was featured in the March issue of the Federal Circuit Bar Association's Pro Bono Digest in an article titled “Veterans, Government Employees, Inventors, and Now Immigrants,” written by Litigation Associate Jenny Palmer.

Litigation Associates Kassie Helm and Francis Acott are featured for their work with the Veterans Appeals Committee. Kassie and Francis recently provided pro bono appellate representation of a Vietnam-era Navy veteran seeking reversal of the denial of benefits for dementia due to his in-service exposure to ionizing radiation. Kassie argued the appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

The article also discusses the Firm’s recent pro bono work on behalf of several organizations that supported Washington state, Minnesota and Hawaii’s efforts to halt implementation of the executive order preventing nationals of a number of Muslim-majority countries from getting visas or entering the country. The pro bono work was led by Litigation Partner Buzz Frahn in the Palo Alto office.
