Firm and Individual Honors Go Back

Simpson Thacher Named Capital Markets Group of the Year by Law360

02.16.17

Simpson Thacher was recognized by Law360 as Capital Markets Group of the Year for 2016. The Firm advised on transactions with an aggregate value of more than $341 billion since November 2015. Art Robinson, Head of the Firm’s Capital Markets Practice, attributed this accomplishment to the group’s ability to successfully navigate some of the most complex and sophisticated capital raising projects. Corporate Partner Josh Bonnie commented that the synergies between the Firm’s top-rated banking and M&A practices allowed Simpson Thacher to handle intricate deals like Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc.’s spin-off of the bulk of its real estate business into a publicly traded REIT, and the spin-off of its timeshare business as a separate publicly traded company. “It’s something we’re able to handle in a firm such as ours with a collaborative and collegial atmosphere,” noted Art.

The practice group was acknowledged for their work on some of the largest transactions of 2016 including Dell’s bond offering, which raised $20 billion across six tranches to help fund its $67 billion purchase of EMC, Microsoft in its $19.75 billion issue to help fund its purchase of LinkedIn, Acelity LP in three Rule 144 / Regulation S offerings with an aggregate value of $2.34 billion, Walgreens Boots Alliance in its $5 billion investment-grade notes offering, and underwriting multiple debt offerings by Apple with an aggregate value of over $23 billion.
