Firm and Individual Honors Go Back

Simpson Thacher Named 2016 Real Estate Group of the Year by Law360

01.19.17

Simpson Thacher was recognized by Law360 as Real Estate Group of the Year for the fourth year in a row. The group was honored for their work on many deals this past year, notably Blackstone’s acquisition of Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village in New York City, in which a unique program to ensure that certain units remained affordable for at least 20 years was successfully negotiated.

Another notable transaction was Blackstone’s acquisition of BioMed Realty, which helps demonstrate both the Firm’s long-standing relationships and its “full life cycle” approach to deals, according to Real Estate Partner Sas Mehrara. Simpson Thacher attorneys continued to help Blackstone in selling off pieces of the BioMed portfolio after closing, including the recent $720 million sale of The Landmark at Eastview property and the $1.5 billion sale of Wexford Science & Technology’s assets.

In addition to Blackstone, other long-standing clients in the private equity sector include The Carlyle Group, KKR and Centerbridge. “We have a relatively small but blue chip roster of clients, really all of which we’ve been doing work for quite a long time and they’re some of the best, most successful and most active real estate investors in the world,” Real Estate Partner Scott Kobak noted.
