Simpson Thacher won two M&A Deal of the Year awards at The Asian Lawyer’s third annual Emerging Markets Awards. The Firm won “M&A Deal of the Year: Pharmaceutical” for its representation of KKR, Dr. Ravi Penmetsa and Gland Pharma Limited in connection with the announced acquisition by Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical of an 86% stake in Gland Pharma for up to $1.26 billion. The deal was the biggest acquisition of Indian assets by a Chinese company. The Firm represented KKR in its investment in Gland Pharma in 2013.

The Firm also won “M&A Deal of the Year: Other Sector” for its role advising KKR and the other selling shareholders in the sale of all the shares of the Alliance Tire Group (“ATG”) to Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. for approximately $1.2 billion. The Firm previously represented KKR in its initial acquisition of a controlling stake in ATG from an affiliate of Warburg Pincus in a leveraged buyout transaction in 2013.
