Simpson Thacher Recognized in Recent China and Asia Legal Awards

Simpson Thacher recently won China Business Law Journal’s 2015 China Business Law Awards in the categories of Capital Markets and Mergers and Acquisitions. China Business Law Journal also recognized the Firm with three “Deal of the Year” awards for its representation of Alibaba Group in a RMB28.4 billion (approximately $4.63 billion) investment in Suning and an $8 billion notes offering, as well as for its representation of Kuaidi Dache in its strategic stock-for-stock merger with Didi Dache.

Separately, at the ALB China Law Awards 2016, the Firm received the “TMT Deal of the Year” award for its representation of Alibaba Group in its proposed going private acquisition of Youku Tudou. The transaction was also named “Deal of the Year” by the Asian-Mena Counsel in the publication’s 2015 annual awards. For more information about the transaction, please click here.

In addition, Simpson Thacher was also awarded five additional “Deals of the Year” by the Asian-Mena Counsel 2015 Deal of the Year awards for our involvement in the following transactions:

  • Blackstone’s sale of IndCor Properties to Global Logistic Properties, in which the Firm represented Blackstone;
  • Kuaidi Dache’s strategic stock-for-stock merger with Didi Dache. The combined company becomes China's largest local transportation mobile platform;
  • Avago Technologies’ acquisition of Broadcom, in which the Firm represented the lead arrangers in the financing for the acquisition;
  • KKR’s investment in CA Media and the creation of Emerald Media, in which the Firm represented KKR, and
  • Concurrent IPOs of Japan Post Holdings and its subsidiaries Japan Post Bank and Japan Post Insurance on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, in which the Firm represented the international managers. The combined ¥1.4 trillion (approximately US$11.6 billion) offering was the largest initial public offering globally in 2015. For more information about the transaction, please click here.

The Firm also received three honorable mentions from the Asian-Mena Counsel for its representation of Hilton Worldwide in the sale of the Waldorf Astoria New York to Anbang Insurance Group, its representation of the underwriters in connection with HTSC’s Hong Kong IPO and its representation of Hyundai Heavy Industries in its offering of Zero Coupon Guaranteed Exchangeable Bonds.
