The Firm is representing Blackstone in connection with its acquisition of BioMed Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE: BMR) in an all-cash transaction valued at $8 billion. Completion of the transaction, which is currently expected to occur in the first quarter of 2016, is contingent upon customary closing conditions, including the approval of BioMed Realty’s stockholders.
This transaction represents the largest private equity buyout of a U.S. public company in 2015. With this deal, Simpson Thacher has represented Blackstone in three multi-billion dollar acquisitions of public real estate companies during the past six months.
BioMed Realty invests in the highest quality institutional real estate to meet the needs of the growing demand across the life science industry. The company owns or has interests in properties comprising approximately 18.8 million square feet.
