Simpson Thacher Obtains Permanent Injunction for JPMorgan Chase in Trademark Dispute

09.16.15

Simpson Thacher successfully obtained a temporary restraining order, preliminary injunction and permanent injunction for JPMorgan Chase & Co. (“JPMC”) in a trademark infringement and cybersquatting litigation brought against the Shashamane Ethiopia Federal Agents Association (SEFAA) and two affiliated entities that, inter alia, operated websites and registered domain names that used JPMC’s trademarks without JPMC’s consent. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York found that the three defendants had committed trademark infringement, unfair competition, trademark dilution and cybersquatting in violation of federal and state law and awarded equitable relief and statutory damages to JPMC.

The Simpson Thacher team consisted of Lori Lesser, Bryce Friedman, David Caldwell, Monica Chan, Michael Joshi and Summer Associate Melanie Jolson. Nick Goldin, Janet Nadile and Jonathan Pall represented JPMC in other matters arising from the defendants’ above activities.
