Simpson Thacher Intellectual Property Counsel Joshua Walker spoke at Stanford Law School in Palo Alto on July 31, 2014, on the “past, present, and future” of advanced IP transactions and litigation practice. He narrated his IP practice’s evolution in Silicon Valley from: (1) M&A and Capital Markets IP issues (which led to his co-founding of CodeX: The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics, in 2004); to (2) client needs for e-commerce and copyright transaction automation platforms (covering his and his colleagues’ 2006 invention of the Stanford Intellectual Property Exchange, now “SIPX”); to (3) the creation and successful spin-off of the leading US IP litigation and diligence tool, from 2008-09 (the Stanford IP Litigation Clearinghouse, now “Lex Machina”), which Joshua led.
