Simpson Thacher was recently awarded four 2013 Asian-MENA Counsel Deals of the Year. The Firm received two Capital Markets Deals of the Year awards for our representation of Suntory Beverage & Food in its $3.9 billion initial public offering and the international managers in the $7.8 billion global offering of shares by Japan Tobacco Inc. The Firm also received M&A Deal of the Year for our representation of Smithfield Foods in its $7.1 billion strategic combination with Shuanghui International and M&A/Private Equity Deal of the Year for our representation of Focus Media Holding Limited in its $3.7 billion going private transaction. The Smithfield/Shuanghui transaction, which represented the largest China takeover of a U.S. company, was also named Best China Deal and Best Cross-Border M&A Deal at FinanceAsia’s 2013 Achievement Awards and Outbound M&A Deal of the Year by China Business Law Journal. In addition, the Firm was also recognized with two Honorable Mentions for our representation of KKR in its acquisition of a controlling stake in Alliance Tire Group from Warburg Pincus, which was awarded 2013 India PE Deal of the Year by AVCJ and 2013 Deal of the Year by India Business Law Journal, and our representation of Goldman Sachs as financial advisor to Micron Technology Inc. in its acquisition of Elpida Memory.
