The twenty-sixth annual Tulane Corporate Law Institute will be held March 27 – March 28, 2014 in New Orleans. The Institute has been called “the equivalent of Davos for the rainmaker crowd” by The New York Times and “the most important gathering of its kind” by Corporate Control Alert. (Click here to view the Tulane website and brochure.) Mr. Spatt is the Chairman Emeritus of the Institute and will Co-Moderate a panel entitled “Cross-Border Transactions.” Mr. Thomas will be a speaker on the “Cross-Border Transactions” panel and will, among other things, discuss CFIUS-related issues.
Mr. Spatt and Mr. Thomas together recently represented Smithfield Foods in its US$7.1 billion sale to Shuanghui International Holdings Limited, the largest Chinese acquisition of a U.S. company to date. The transaction has received a number of accolades, including “Outbound M&A Deal of the Year” from China Business Law Journal, “Best China Deal” and “Best Cross Border M&A Deal” from FinanceAsia and was recognized in the Corporate & Commercial category of the Financial Times’ 2013 U.S. Innovative Lawyers Report.
